Been There, Done That! Acts 17:10-15

We invite you are here to worship with us Sunday with Pastor Ken Sype as our guest pastor.

Pastor Sype and his wife Jane moved to Lincoln several years ago after serving as pastor at congregations in Iola and Overland Park, Kansas. The Sype’s are personally familiar with church planting having started Christ Lutheran Church and School in Overland.

Pastor Sype’s message last week at Word of Life was titled, “What’s It’s Use, in regard to the Bible, concluding that to read the Bible is to be confronted by the Living God. The Bible is His power that makes us into a new creation as we come to know Him through His own Son Jesus Christ.

Sunday,  Pastor Sype’s message title is,Been There, Done That!”  It is about the ordinary people that we read about in Scripture. We discover that we are very much like those who have gone before us.  The people of the Bible are just like us also meaning we are like them! And their stories point us to Jesus Christ who is the Way, the Truth and Life!

Question of the week: Some books of the Bible, such as Revelation and Daniel, are accurately described as or containing apocalyptic literature. What does that mean and why is it important to understand the distinction?

Answer: Apocalyptic literature is a genre or type of prophetical writing. “Apocalypse” is a Greek word meaning “revelation”, “an unveiling or unfolding of things not previously known and which could not be known apart from the unveiling.” As a genre, apocalyptic literature details the authors’ visions of the end times as revealed by an angel or other heavenly messenger. Careful interpretation is needed because what is written is prophetic rather than literal.
