“The Promise!” – Romans 8:28-39
What do we expect from God? Is it true that, because of our humanness, we limit our expectations of God? Do we make God small because of our own limitations? Paul challenges us to see that we don’t fit God into our lives, but rather, God brings us into His life.
Yes, we live in a world, using Paul’s words, of tribulation, distress, persecution, famine, nakedness, danger, and the sword. Evil and ruin surrounds us and threatens to engulf us but Paul proclaims the promise! “What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?” In a world of ruin outside and within us no one “will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” That is the promise, our hope and destiny.
Question of the week: Who “coined” the phrase, “When in Rome do as Romans do?”
