“Love Makes the World Go Round. Really?” – Romans 12:9-21
Our present series called, “When in Rome, Do,” is based on Paul’s letter to the Romans. In this missionary letter, written to a church that he had never visited, Paul offers a view of a changed world because of God’s love. Then, in Romans 12:9-10a, Paul instructs them and us to, “Let love be genuine. Abhor what is evil; hold fast to what is good. Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor.”
Can we trust Paul? Does Paul know what he is talking about when he says to love one another? What distinguishes Paul from any self-help guru with the latest words of wisdom? Paul readily admits that what he knows is truth is viewed as foolishness by the world! 1 Cor. 4:10. But Paul also writes, “Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world?” 1 Cor. 1:20b. Yes, love does make the world go round, when we understand the source of that love.
Question of the week: Where was Paul when he wrote his letter to the Romans?
Answer: When Paul wrote his letter to the Romans he probably was serving the believers in Corinth.
