Father’s Day “Samuel, God’s Son.” 1 Samuel 3:19-20
Fourth time’s a charm! There is something special about hearing your father’s voice, isn’t there. Ask Samuel, who was promised to God by his mother and at a very early age went to live with the Prophet Eli in the house of God, far away from his father Elkanah. One evening Samuel was awakened by a voice calling his name. Answering here I am, Samuel rushed to Eli thinking he had called. Eli said, “I did not call you, lie down again.” Two more times the voice called and each time Eli said I did not call but after the third time Eli told Samuel, that the Lord was calling him. The fourth time, Samuel answered, “Speak Lord, for your servant hears.” Did he miss his father Elkanah? Of course but given to serve the Lord, in the Lord’s house, Samuel hears his Father, our Father call him by name. As we say, “Speak Lord, for your servant hears,” we hear His voice.
