“Thanking God.” – Luke 18:10-14
Jesus, in a parable, describes two men praying in the Holy Temple of God. The Pharisee and the tax collector were so different in their occupations and seemingly in their relationship with God. Pharisees were known to be religious and “right with God.” Tax collectors were hated and didn’t belong anywhere and certainly not in the Temple. The disciples and those around Jesus listened carefully as the story unfolded. What would Jesus say?

Question of the week: The setting of the Parable of the Pharisee and the Tax collector told by Jesus was in the Temple in Jerusalem. Does the Temple exist today?

Answer: The Temple at the time of Jesus, was the second Temple, built at the same site as the Temple built by King Solomon. The Romans destroyed the Temple around 70 A.D. and only a wall remains at this time.

Update on our LifeCenter
The Planning Team met Monday, July 29, with our architect, Rick Geiler, to discuss and give input for the design of our church building. Bill Dick, president of Word of Life, had these comments about the meeting.

“The planning meeting was well attended. Rick presented several sketches of the plan C concept and the team approved the direction he is headed. The next meeting will be on Aug. 12 and should include more of the various stake holders.”

The Aug. 12 meeting is at 7 p.m. in one of the classrooms at Concordia Fallbrook.

Summer Message Series – The Mind of Jesus
Our Summer Message Series, uses the parables of Jesus as a guide and inspiration for living and demonstrating the love God has for us. The parables make up a large part of the recorded preaching of Jesus. The great themes of Jesus are intimately revealed and expressed in His parables. A bonus in studying the parables is that they put us in touch with the mind of Jesus as well, if not better, than any other part of the Gospels. That will be our quest. What is the mind of Jesus and what does He tell us?

Sunday, we look at a parable that Jesus told to address an attitude. Luke writes it this way, “(Jesus)… told this parable to some who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and treated others with contempt.” Luke 18:9.
