Just When Things Where Making Sense” Luke 9:29-31
It was a remarkable change of pace, no matter what the background of the disciples, in their new life as disciples of Jesus.
As the disciples accompanied, were instructed and observed this Nazarene Rabbi so much was new. As they saw Jesus heal, exorcise demons and forgive sins they began to understand that Jesus was from God. When Jesus asked the disciples, “But who do you say that I am?” Peter answered, “The Christ of God.” Luke 9:20 Peter got that right and everything was settled, right? No, because then Jesus tells them He must go to Jerusalem and die and after three days rise again. Peter argues “Never, Lord!” and Jesus rebukes him and calls him Satan. Then a week later, Jesus takes Peter, James and John to a mountain top to pray. There they would see Jesus in a new light, not only as a man but as God and hear God the Father say, “This is my Son, my Chosen One; listen to him!” Luke 9:36
Question: What was the meaning and importance of the transfiguration?”
Answer: The transfiguration of Christ gave His “inner circle” of disciples a greater understanding of who Jesus was. Christ underwent a dramatic change in appearance and Peter, James and John disciples saw Him in His glory and heard the words, from God the Father, “this is my beloved Son.” For Jesus, it was answer to prayer.
