“The Word of God Remains Forever”

The first table of the law reminds us that we are to love the Lord our God with all our heart.

We know there is a God by the existence of the world and through our own conscience.  We also know there is a God from the Bible where our Lord reveals Himself to us.   We are to revere God’s name above all other names.  God’s name is not to be used inappropriately, such as using the name of God carelessly or calling down the anger and punishment of God on any person or thing.  We are to gather as believers so that we can publicly worship our God through Word and Sacrament.

Question: Why did Luther write the Small Catechism?

Answer: Luther wrote the Small Catechism so that children would receive basic instruction from their parents, teachers and pastors on Christian doctrine “in brief, plain and simple form.”
