His love, our response
In the Bible we can read some wonderful stories of people whose hearts were full of true, authentic joy. King David, in the Old Testament, is one of the brightest examples. He sings songs and even dances with joy. By no means perfect, he lived with passion and rejoiced in the Lord.
Sing joyfully to the Lord, you righteous; it is fitting for the upright to praise Him. (Psalm 33:1)
A similar message is given by St. Paul:
Speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord. (Ephesians 5:19)
It is not a requirement to be an accomplished musician to sing this sort of song. This is a song from your heart. From your heart to God’s. It does much more than lift your spirits for an hour; it has an impact on your life.
When we know God’s love, it is a joy to live in that knowledge and respond with praise. And we respond by living a life that honors our Lord. While there may be much to do yet while we are here, we look forward to heaven with confidence as well. Our way has been paid for in full — made possible by the complete and perfect sacrifice made by Jesus.
Is it too late for me?
Another story of joy is told by Jesus in the New Testament. He tells of a father whose son rejected him and lived a life of wastefulness. When the son returned, he hoped only that his father would take him back as a servant. The father, however, seeing his son return, rejoiced and threw a great celebration and welcomed his son back completely. That story is our story as well. Our Father in Heaven cares for us and looks for our return.
Why wait longer?
Are you ready to be touched by God’s love and respond joyfully? He is waiting for you. Let your heart sing.
