Read the Scriptures with Confidence, Clarity, and Christ at the Center

Reading and studying the Word of God is a lifelong adventure. But how do we know we’re interpreting it faithfully? How do we make sense of ancient texts filled with mystery, poetry, prophecy, and apocalyptic imagery?

In this course, Reading and Interpreting the Bible, Chad Bird invites you into the grand story of Scripture, a story that stretches from Genesis to Revelation and is still alive and speaking today. You’ll learn how to read both carefully and confidently, paying attention to context and genre while following the Bible’s overarching narrative that always leads us to Christ and our life in Him. This course introduces essential interpretive tools for reading the Bible with clarity, depth, and faithfulness, equipping students to hear God’s voice in His Word and to teach and share the Scriptures with confidence.

Topics Covered in the Course

  • How to read the Bible both big-picture and close-up
  • Why context and genre matter when interpreting Scripture
  • How to read narratives, law, poetry, wisdom, Gospels, epistles, and apocalyptic literature
  • How the Bible’s many voices tell one unified story
  • How Scripture consistently leads us to Christ
  • How to read the Bible not just as an ancient text, but as God’s living Word for today

CALL PROCESS UPDATE

The Call Committee has explored the possibility of calling a candidate from one of our LCMS seminaries. In doing so, it became evident that there is not currently a path forward for Word of Life to call a seminary graduate this spring due to a lack of available candidates.

Meanwhile, the Call Committee recently interviewed two pastors currently serving in the field, but we do not have a candidate to recommend to the congregation at this time. The Call Committee continues work on calling a pastor from the field. Please continue to keep the call process in your prayers!

PRAYERS AND SUPPORT FOR WING AND RAMIREZ FAMILIES

This past weekend, four Concordia University Nebraska students were in an accident returning to Seward after Spring Break. The driver of the car, Matthew Wing, was killed. Three other students were in the car. Noah Ramirez is currently suffering from a Traumatic Brain Injury. The other two students have been released and are recovering from their injuries.

We take great comfort in knowing Jesus as our Savior. In knowing He has won the ultimate victory over sin, death, and the grave, and has prepared a place for us alongside Him at heaven’s table.

Matthew is the son of Pastor Dan Wing who serves at Trinity Lutheran Church, which is a partner with us in our Youth program. Matthew’s wife, Brianna, is part of the staff at Trinity Lutheran School. Please join us in lifting the Wing family up in prayer during this difficult time.

An obituary for Matthew can be found here: https://www.campbell-lewis.com/obituary/matthew-wing

Noah Ramirez is currently in the hospital in Kansas City, his family, from California, is staying with him. Please pray for God’s healing hand upon this young man.

OPTIONS FOR PARENTS

LIVE STREAM in our Nursery/Preschool room available during church services for anyone with the wiggles (young and old!). This space has plenty of toys to keep little ones occupied (parents should plan to be in the room with their children.)

Wiggle Room in Room #4 (the room just to the left out the Sanctuary door) is equipped with a TV to stream the service along with chairs, and a few toys. This is a great space for feeding babies or corralling toddlers! This space is also available during Sunday School for those who are not quite ready for the Preschool classroom. Parents should plan to supervise their children in this space.

And, as always, we welcome the squirms, noises, and energy that come with children. God put the wiggle in children, don’t feel like you have to suppress it here!

Children are a gift, and we’d love to support you in the faith formation of your family!
