CHRISTMAS SCRIP

Christmas is fast approaching and we will again be doing a special script order of exactly what you want. Just fill out the order form turn it in by December 7th and the cards should be ready for pick up on December 14th. You can pay when you order or when you pick up the cards whatever works best for you.

The forms will be available at the script table on Sundays after church. As of November 2 the box if fully stocked if you need some card for Black Friday shopping.

CHRISTMAS DECORATING & CLEANING

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas… at Word of Life!

Mark your calendars for Saturday, November 29th, 9:00am, for a church decorating party! Help set up the trees, clean the building, and prepare our hearts and building for Christ’s birth!

SUNDAY SCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENTS

There will be NO SUNDAY SCHOOL on Sunday, November 30th due to Thanksgiving.

Children are busy practicing for the Children’s Christmas program on December 21. Feel free to ask your child what they’re learning in Sunday School!

ADVENT MEALS & CAROL

Each Wednesday leading up to Christmas, we will have an Advent Devotion time and Carols. Starting December 3, we will serve a light meal followed by a devotion then we will travel to a care facility for Christmas Caroling.

POINSETTIA ADOPTION

Once again, Word of Life will be decorating our church with poinsettias for Christmas. After Christmas Eve service, they will need a new home! You may take your adopted poinsettia home after the Christmas Eve Service (or the Sunday after). Poinsettia adoptions are $10 each, and can be adopted in the name or memory of someone (which will be in the Christmas Eve bulletin). CAROLING TO SHUT-INS

Let’s bring some beautiful Christmas music to our sweet shut-ins! Meet at church at 3pm on Saturday, December 13. We’ll gather our supplies and travel to bring cheer to our loved ones!

CALL PROCESS UPDATE

The Call Committee continues to work through the call process in hope and assurance of God’s faithfulness and provision.

To recap, Word of Life has been vacant since March 2023, and we received our first candidate list in November 2023. Since then, four calls have been extended and declined. While 2.5+ years is a significant amount of time, we also know that there are more vacancies than pastors to fill them. This amount of time is in line with other calling congregations with unique ministries.

A new candidate list was received from the Nebraska District Office in October. That list of 13 names has been reviewed, and we have recently completed interviews with two of those candidates. The Call Committee will be prayerfully considering whether to recommend one of these candidates to the congregation for extending a call.

The Call Committee appreciates Pastor Schmidt’s continued service to Word of Life during our vacancy and welcomes communication from congregation members at any time. Please continue to keep our call process in your prayers!

I-180 CORRIDOR YOUTH NEWS

Thank you to everyone who supported the Middle School Cookie Sales! The theme this year was Show, and the youth were challenged to show Christ’s love to others just as Christ showed his love for us while we were still sinners by dying on the cross (Romans 5:8). Thanks to your generous support, on November 8th, 7 youth and 2 adults were able to head out to Kearney for the District Middle School Gathering. Over the weekend, they had opportunities to worship, listen to speakers, participate in service projects, and grow together with youth from across Nebraska in games and fellowship!

OPTIONS FOR PARENTS

LIVE STREAM in our Nursery/Preschool room available during church services for anyone with the wiggles (young and old!). This space has plenty of toys to keep little ones occupied (parents should plan to be in the room with their children.)

Wiggle Room in Room #4 (the room just to the left out the Sanctuary door) is equipped with a TV to stream the service along with chairs, and a few toys. This is a great space for feeding babies or corralling toddlers! This space is also available during Sunday School for those who are not quite ready for the Preschool classroom. Parents should plan to supervise their children in this space.

And, as always, we welcome the squirms, noises, and energy that come with children. God put the wiggle in children, don’t feel like you have to suppress it here!

Children are a gift, and we’d love to support you in the faith formation of your family!
